Now let's take a look at the temperatures generated by each
alternator. Under identical static testing conditions,
throughout the entire engine power range (idle to cruise), the
Plane-Power alternator runs between 2% and 50% cooler than the
Prestolite.
Why should we care? The vast majority of
both catastrophic and life cycle alternator failures are caused by
excessive and/or prolonged buildup of heat. As in all things
mechanical, heat negatively affects nearly every aspect of
alternator performance.
